We are delighted to share that we are successful applicants of a $5000 Nikau Foundation grant - Kevin & Julia O’Connor Endowment Fund.

This grant is to help pay for interpreter fees. Kim Sheehan, Vinnies Community Social Worker accesses interpreters to help with communication between many of our welfare clients.

“Being able to access interpreters is invaluable to my work as a community social worker – it enables me to communicate more effectively with clients who struggle with English. The clients that I work with are typically marginalised members of our community, who often have complex issues. In order to provide the best support, they benefit from having their needs, strengths and situation clearly understood. A thorough social work assessment is dependent on this communication.” - Kim Sheehan, Community Social Worker
