Accessing Vinnies social work services

Alternatively, you may like to contact Wellington City Mission or Salvation Army who also provide a free social work service.

Support Vinnies’ social work service

We need your help. Demand for our free, confidential and judgement-free social work services in Wellington is at an all time high. Many Wellington families need the support and advocacy of our social worker. We don’t want to turn people away, but we simply don’t have the funding available to hire another social worker. Can you help?

What can a social worker help with?

Vinnies’ social worker is professionally trained in providing support and advocacy that is tailored for your individual needs. Support can be offer both short and long term - it all depends on what is right for your individual circumstances.

Social work support may include:

  • supporting and advocating for you in your dealings with agencies such as Work and Income, Ministry of Justice, Oranga Tamariki, Inland Revenue, Immigration services, debt collection services, and/or housing providers

  • making referrals to other appropriate support services

  • budgeting advice

  • material assistance with food, clothing or household items.

We support a wide variety of cultures and ethnicities. Our social worker has access to interpreters to assist us with helping you.
