Just as our local conferences are set up to help those in need through the Parish, Young Vinnies is run though schools throughout Wellington.
The programs are headed up by Ann D’Souza and run by an amazing staff of local teachers.
Each School’s Young Vinnies elects their own officers and plans their own events. They all chip in when it comes to our large-scale book sales and street day appeals.
This is great practice for young men and women to learn empathy towards those less fortunate, gaining valuable life skills and becoming active and well-balanced members of society.
In the Wellington Area we have active young Vinnies groups at:
This year’s Senior Vinnies leadership team:
President: David Gunawae
Vice Presidents: Finn Lowdnes and Martin Harris
SPC Vinnies has taken on board Pope Francis’ Holy Year of Mercy and started the year by collecting Easter Eggs for Vinnies Foodbanks. The Group meets every week to work towards these goals, and they are always open to new members from the school.
This year Eunice is heading up the Young Vinnies at St Mary’s College as President and, along with the rest of these fine young women, is here to make a big impact.
Eunice comments that “being part of Young Vinnies’ is a wonderful opportunity to be part of an organisation that supports the well being of those less fortunate.”
The team is focusing on our slogan “People helping People” and coming up with themes for each term that fit with this mission.
St Mary’s College is “very excited to venture into this year!” And has events planned to help the community such as visiting the children’s hospital.
Young Vinnies at St Catherine’s College is called Mercy Crew.
