The young men at St Patrick’s College’s Young Vinnies ran their annual Taylorfest Givathon this week from Monday 29th June-till Thursday 2nd July. The purpose? To focus on ‘giving with dignity’. The boys have already had an outstanding year of charitable donations and we are so happy that they continually help us to be able to help those in the community who need it most.
This year they set a theme for each day’s giving:
- Monday: Cans of food
- Tuesday: High quality clothes and shoes
- Wednesday: High quality sheets, towels, and curtains
- Thursday: Kitchen items
A great way to motivate the young men to give was to set this as a competition between the houses. We arrived at the school at 1:30 to pick up all the donations, and one house had just gotten back with a Pak ‘N Save trolley full of donations.
Each house was busy counting boxes,
and moving them to the pick up locations.
Each houses’ donations were counted separately and the overall winner was Watters House! Congratulations! And the total amount received was 3548 items. But the real winners are those who will receive your donations, and whose lives are touched by your generosity.
Thank you for hosting your Young Vinnies Givathon!
Update: Sometimes its difficult to see just how generous people are when donations come all covered in boxes. So as we were sorting something started to grow…
until we had a huge pyramid!
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved with the St Patrick’s College, Young Vinnies Givathon, those in need around Wellington will be well-looked after! Thank you!
