The Society of St Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic lay organisation inspired by the Gospels of Jesus Christ. Vincentians work in a caring and practical manner to promote human dignity and justice through personal contact with those in need, hence the motto, People Helping People.
Our mission is to help people in crisis, comforting them and assuring them that crises are not meant to be carried alone.
The Mission of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul implies that as Vincentians we:
- See Christ in anyone who suffers
- Come together as a family
- Have personal contact with the poor
- Help in all possible ways
We believe that charity is beyond mere alms giving–we must make personal contact with those who suffer, irrespective of what the suffering may be, and without judgement. Members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul are keenly aware that poverty, suffering and loneliness are present for thousands of people in our communities. For that reason, we seek to relieve need and address its causes.
