Kim, a recent graduate from Massey University, was first inspired to take up a career in social work while in London. It was there that she met some incredibly inspirational individuals and from that moment she knew she had to do something meaningful for others. Moving back home to NZ, Kim has a background in support work and Work & Income.
What is your philosophy when it comes to Social work?
“I believe strongly in social justice and a holistic approach to the individual. There are no black and white situations, but rather so much grey. I’m here to be an advocate and speak for those who come to us.”
Why did you want to work here at Vinnies?
“I realised that I wanted to really be on the front lines of social work, dealing directly with those who needed help and that is something that I saw happening at Vinnies. It also helped that I received some great encouragement from a colleague who told me that I would love it here!”
How have you found your first few weeks here?
“Everyone at Vinnies is friendly and welcoming. I feel like I have some massive shoes to fill and am still learning al lot, but I’m more than up for the challenge!”
Things to note about Kim? She loves her cat Tiakarete, Chocolate and ticking items off her to do list. This interview was originally part of our February 2016 Newsletter.
