When and Where to find our Food Bank
Our Food bank is located in Newtown, above our Vinnies shop. Please stop by Monday-Friday between 9 am-4 pm and either donate food, or to get on the road to self-sufficiency.
What our Food Bank provides
Our food bank provides a supplemental, healthy food parcel. It contains various non-perishable canned foods as well as milk and cheese. We usually have a selection of fresh vegetables and breads for you to take as well. Cleaning products such as laundry detergent or toothpaste are also available. Anything that you do not want or will not use, we ask that you take out of your bag and give back to us.
What to bring & do
You can get food from us in your particular suburb of Wellington by getting in touch with one of our conferences who operate on an even more local scale. Each of them has access to our food bank, and this allows you to not have to travel into Newtown.
If you are a Work and Income client, please note that you will need to have used up your entitlements to additional food assistance and bring along a printout from WINZ stating that you have no food grant entitlement. If you visit our food bank, please do not visit other food banks.
Hunger in Wellington
Hunger and lacking the funds for food is not something that is happening miles away. It occurs every day here in Wellington.
Here at St Vincent de Paul, we do everything we can to combat hunger here in a our local area by providing food for the poor and hungry via our local food bank.
We accept donated food in the form of canned and dried goods which we then offer as a ‘hand up’ to those in need. This helps supplement their food costs. It is our goal that everyone is well-fed and is able to grow to the point that they no longer require our services. Below is a portion of the large donation from the boys at St Patrick’s College. We are so excited to give this out to those in need!
We also receive fresh fruit and vegetables from Kaibosh Food Rescue, to ensure that everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food.
We are able to provide food bank assistance to all local Wellingtonians as far as Churton Park and Johnsonville. If you live outside this area, you will need to call another area council for assistance.
