Continuing our partnership with Housing NZ, last Saturday we had a community BBQ at the Dixon Street Apartments.
If you remember, the weather in the morning was wet. Very wet. For a while we contemplated cancelling but then decided to take the party from the ground floor outside to the 10th floor where there was a small outdoor with cover for the BBQ, and an indoor sitting area for all of us. Turns out, it was a perfect space!
John Kennedy-Good made a quick speech about how excited we all were to be there together and how we looked forward to helping any and all tenants that approached us.
By 1:00 we had a big load of sausages and onions all cooked up, and served with bread and coleslaw.
Here 3 of our volunteers, Anastaisa, Sarah and Ana are excited to start serving!
Having a shared meal together is a great way to socialise and meet new people. We had about 50 tenants pop up for the BBQ throughout the afternoon.
Our Vinnies volunteers met so many great people and got to chatting about everything and anything.
What our partnership with Housing NZ is all about is connecting with people. Some may need material assistance, and others may just only want a bit of a chat. We won’t know until we meet!
A few of the lovely faces we met.
Thank you so much to Housing NZ and Dixon Street Apartment Tenants for welcoming us to where you live. We are excited to get to know all of you better.
