We received an unusual call at the Vinnies Wellington office on 7th April – a ship to shore call from The Radiance of the Seas!
It was the Cruise Director himself on the other end of the line, and he explained to one of our members of staff that they were having a crisis on the high seas – they had run out of altar breads! They were a day away from New Zealand when he noticed the shortage, so he started to search the internet for places to purchase altar breads whilst they were ashore.
He told our member of staff that, after taking a look at our website and realising that our altar breads are made by Wellingtonians with intellectual disabilities, he wanted to purchase from us. After hearing how our profits are fed back into the local community through the work we do, he was sold!
Our Welfare and Services Co-ordinator, Kathy, was here to meet them and said “He arrived with his assistant and I introduced them to some of our staff that make the fantastic altar breads. He was so happy with everything that he purchased 5000 to take back to the ship! As he was leaving he said that he was really impressed with the service they had received from us, and would put the word out to their Management Team, so if their fleet of ships had need of altar breads in the future, we would be the first port of call.”
