We Fight Loneliness here in Wellington!
A Vinnies Conference is the basic unit by which the Society of St Vincent de Paul is organized. Each conference is based out of a local Parish, and run by its members (with a president at the head) to give personal, local and constant support to the community. While we are run from the Catholic Parish within the Archdiocese of Wellington, we are a lay organization. That means you don’t have to be Catholic to join. You just need to want to help. And we help everyone!
We are here to help anyone in need, as the society’s aim is to help people stand on their own feet and to take control of their own destiny.
What Conferences Do
Problems we can help with at the conference level include, but are not limited to:
- Material items such as food, clothing, shelter or warmth
- Financial stress
- Workplace or other types of bullying
- Social isolation
- Physical/Mental Health support
- Grief and loneliness
So what does your local Vinnies conference do about these problems? Well, first, the conference really is a group of people dedicated to helping. So individually we support. We help drive you to places, cook you a meal, have a conversation or just sit with you when you are lonely. If you know anyone who needs help, just let us know.
