Originally built in 1937, yesterday marked the reopening of the Centennial Community Centre in Berhampore! The entire complex retains is original Art Deco vibe while all the units have been updated to be warm, dry and safe. The best part, of course, is the renovation of the community centre which sits right in the middle of everything!
We here at Vinnies are particularly excited to involved with the centre by offering our services there and looking forward to having a space to meet with the community. We plan to support the centre and community as much as possible with our social worker as well as other volunteers who work in conferences.
There were a great many speeches which spoke of the great collaboration between local Iwi, Housing NZ, Wellington City Council and Berhampore School–all of whom are supporting and working towards helping the local community.
The highlight, of course, was the amazing singing of Berhampore School Choir!
And the unveiling of the new sign.
John Kennedy-Good, our Wellington area president, and John Rossbotham, our Wellington area manager/secretary took a moment to pose by the newly unveiled sign of the community centre.
The cake was amazing!!
The amazing cake was then cut by two tenets.
John Rossbotham then also had a moment to pose with Merio Marsters the Community Centre’s Co-ordinator. We are looking forward to working closely with her!
We here at Vinnies are so proud to be a part of helping the Berhampore Community!!
